OETKPS Advances Practical Training with Paddy Weed Identification and Safe Herbicide Application for African Delegates
On February 9, 2026, the international training program “Rice Production Technologies for Food Security and Sustainability of African Countries 2026,” a collaborative initiative by Kasetsart University (Kamphaeng Saen), JICA, and TICA, advanced its intensive practical curriculum. The session commenced with the module “Identify Weeds in Paddy Field,” led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Jamnian Chompoo, who provided essential knowledge on classifying and understanding the key characteristics of various weeds in rice paddies. This foundational learning smoothly transitioned into the management phase with the “Herbicide Application” module conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tossapon Pornprom. This session emphasized proper and safe techniques for selecting and applying herbicides. Equipping the delegates with these crucial pest control strategies enables them to effectively manage weeds, thereby enhancing rice production efficiency and contributing to long-term sustainable food security in the African region.
